Tiny big man

Yesterday Asher had his 4 month check up. He came in at 25 1/4 inches and 12 lbs, 11 oz. He's in the 75th percentile for length and only the 10th for weight. So he's tall, but little. I'm okay with that. At 2 months, Asher was in the 25th percentile for weight and has dropped off some since then, so his doctor would like to see him pick up a little bit of weight. But, since he's rejecting formula and isn't interested in eating from a spoon yet, there's not much we can do about it now. He seems satisfied with what he gets and continues to gain weight, so there's nothing to worry about now. We're hoping hell start eating from a spoon soon.

On Monday I left him on his play mat on his back while I went to get a little snack. When I came back from the kitchen, I found him on his tummy - sneaky little guy. Most babies roll the other way (from tummy to back) first, but Asher didn't seem at all interested in that. Until yesterday, that is. Jeff put him on his tummy and all the sudden Asher turned over to his back. It ma be more accurate to say he fell over onto his back as he seemed as surprised by it as we were.

We've gotten a few more giggles and are loving all of Asher's many expressions.

Big Brother Eli is doing well, also. He's been helping in the garden and making sure that Asher always has his "pi-er" (pacifier). Yesterday, while we were sitting at the table eating lunch, Eli said to me, "Momma, that's hilarious." I can't even remember what it was in reference, but what three year old says "hilarious?"

Time passes by . . .

When I finally get a chance to sit down and think about posting something, I always face the same challenge - which things do I highlight? Our kids are just so dang cute and brilliant, of course, and do so many amazing things (amazing was the word on the street today on Sesame Street), that I can't keep track of all the things I think I should tell you about. Here's just a few from the last couple of weeks.

1. Last night Asher giggled! Well, okay, it was more of a low gutteral half giggle that turned into hiccups rather quickly, but it was the cutest thing I'd heard all day.

2. Last Friday Eli caught his first fish - and his second. Grandpa Traxler had bought Eli his very own fishing pole a few weeks ago and Grandpa, Papa and Eli headed out in the boat on Friday evening. I'm not sure who was more excited about the fish between the three of them. It was precious.

3. A few weeks ago, while I was at work, Eli gave Asher his bottle. He's such a great big brother. Asher clearly adores him.

4. Just over a week ago, Asher was baptized. I (Jen) got to baptize him, which may very well be my favorite moment of my life so far. And, of course, I forgot to bring my camera. So, when we get some pictures from Grandma and Grandpa Traxler, I'll post some.

5. Eli got a great kitchen set from some friends from church who have older kids. There's all the standard kitchen stuff, plus a washer and drier with an iron and a grill. Last night Jeff grilled us some delicious hot dogs and Eli set his grill up right next to him to work with Papa on dinner.

You just can't make this stuff up. We sure do love our life.
